Category Archives: Angels
The Bible says that God has given all of His children angels and given to us for protection.. Psalms 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. (ESV) Psalms 91:11 He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. (ESV) Angels always watch over God’s children. Jesus said we need to be careful how we deal with His children. Matthew 18:10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. (ESV)
These angels are here to minister for, all who have accepted Jesus as their Savior, or the ones that inherit salvation. (It is the Holy Spirit that ministers to us, angels’ minister for us) God has sent them to us, and for them to work on our behalf. Hebrews 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? (KJV) It is good to acknowledge this, and send them to help not only in time of need, but to keep us protected, and bring to us blessings.
In the Old Testament when Abraham sent Hagar away at the bidding of Sarah, an angel protected her and provided water for her, and even gave her instructions. Geneses 16:3 So after Abram had been living for ten years in the land of Canaan, Sarai took Hagar, her Egyptian servant, and gave her to Abram for his wife.:4 And he went in to Hagar and she became with child, and when she saw that she was with child, she no longer had any respect for her master’s wife.:5 And Sarai said to Abram, May my wrong be on you: I gave you my servant for your wife and when she saw that she was with child, she no longer had any respect for me: may the Lord be judge between you and me.:6 And Abram said, The woman is in your power; do with her whatever seems good to you. And Sarai was cruel to her, so that she went running away from her. :7 And an angel of the Lord came to her by a fountain of water in the waste land, by the fountain on the way to Shur.:8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where have you come from and where are you going? And she said, I am running away from Sarai, my master’s wife.:9 And the angel said to her, Go back, and put yourself under her authority.:10 And the angel of the Lord said, Your seed will be greatly increased so that it may not be numbered.:11 And the angel of the Lord said, See, you are with child and will give birth to a son, to whom you will give the name Ishmael, because the ears of the Lord were open to your sorrow. (BBE) Throughout the scriptures we see angels giving instructions to people. Geneses 22:11But the voice of the angel of the Lord came from heaven, saying, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I (BBE). Geneses 31:11 And in my dream the angel of the Lord said to me, Jacob: and I said, Here am I (BBE). Judges 13:13 And the angel of the Lord came to the woman, (Manoah,) (BBE) Luke 1:13 But the angel said, Have no fear, Zacharias (BBE), Luke 1:30 And the angel said to her, Have no fear, Mary, for you have God’s approval. (BBE)
We also see angels fighting and protecting God’s people. 2Kiings 19:35 And that night the angel of the Lord went out and put to death in the army of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand men; and when the people got up early in the morning, there was nothing to be seen but dead bodies.:36 So Sennacherib, king of Assyria, went back to his place at Nineveh. (BBE) Notice one angel killed 185,000 solders. We also see in the book of Daniel that and angel protected Daniel in the lions den. Daniel 6:22 My God has sent his angel to keep the lions’ mouths shut, and they have done me no damage: because I was seen to be without sin before him; and further, before you, O King, I have done no wrong. (BBE) If we understand and believe in God’s protection, we have even enough to outnumber an army. 2Kings 6:16 And he said in answer, Have no fear; those who are with us are more than those who are with them. :17 Then Elisha made a prayer to the Lord, saying, Lord, let his eyes be open so that he may see. And the Lord made the young man’s eyes open; and he saw that all the mountain was full of horses and carriages of fire round Elisha (BBE)
We see an angel of the Lord warning Joseph, the father of Jesus. Matthew 2:13 And when they had gone, an angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream, saying, Get up and take the young child and his mother, and go into Egypt, and do not go from there till I give you word; for Herod will be searching for the young child to put him to death. (BBE) We see an angel of the Lord opening prison doors for the apostle Peter, and later the apostle Paul. Acts 12:8 Then the angel said, Put on your shoes and get ready to go. And he did so. And he said, Put your coat round you and come with me.:9 And he went out after him; and he was not certain if what was done by the angel was a fact, for it seemed to him that he was seeing a vision. :10 And when they had gone past the first and second watchmen they came to the iron door into the town, which came open by itself: and they went out and down one street; and then the angel went away. (BBE) We need to be careful, because we may be entertaining angles. Hebrews 13:2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. (NIV
